AMAA Sports are back in 2022!

American Martyrs Athletic Association is back to playing sports!

Here is a look back on a year of achievements! More updates to come on the sports that have been played.

Returning to softball in the Spring of 2021 after not having played since the Spring of 2019, was not an easy task. Luckily, AMAA was able to field two teams, an Intermediate Team made up of 7th and 8th graders and a Bantam team made up of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.

Coaches Kathleen Fortune and Linda Stegmeier returned to coach the Intermediate team, with returning Intermediate players Lainie Madrazo, Maya Panepinto, and Sarah Gonzalez. The team was led both on and off the field by captains Samantha Shoule and Sarah Gonzalez. After a rough start, the team went on a 5 game winning streak in the second half of the season, which led them to the Diocesan Semi-Finals, where they lost to an OLBS team that went on to win the Championship. The team finished the season with a respectable 6-6 record, which doesn't reflect how good this team really was. Though we struggled with pitching, our team was regularly complemented by the umpires and opposing team's coaches for their sportsmanship, discipline, and knowledge of the game, and teams feared our strong bats and solid defensive players. We wish we could've had this group of girls together for another season!

Coach Daniel Madrazo returned to coach the Bantam team. Though their roster was small, these girls were committed to their team. They played in a very tough division with powerhouse teams, but were able to put together some stretches of good offensive and defensive play. Unfortunately, they lost in the first round of the Diocesan playoffs, but that didn't damper the spirits of these girls who already have a whole bunch of them registered to give it another go for the 2022 season!

Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Winners of the Ray Fortune Award

Given to 8th graders who exhibit exceptional leadership and service. This year's recipients were Lelaina Madrazo and Sarah Gonzalez! The award was well-deserved by both. Congratulations!

2121 Baseball

Congratulations to the team for taking home a plaque for 2nd place in the Diocese!

CYO Baseball has seen a dwindling number of teams and parishes participating, but here at AMAA, we were still able to put together one strong team.

Coach Daniel Madrazo pulled double duty, coaching both baseball and softball, and we're so grateful that he did. Our Novice baseball team was made up of boys in grades 3, 4 and 5. They finished the regular season with a 5-5 record and made it to the Diocesan Championship game played at Msgr. McClancy High School! They were defeated in the Diocesan Championship by a strong and seasoned St. Luke's team.

2021 Cross Country Track

The American Martyrs Eagles Cross Country Team finished another strong season this past fall. In the first two races, individual performances were rewarded by medals. Bolstered by a roster of 35 runners, we were competitive in almost every race. In total, the runners earned 2 Gold, 9 Silver and 20 Bronze medals during those first two meets. At the Sectionals and Championships, which is scored on both an individual and a team basis, our runners earned 1 Gold, 9 Silver and 28 Bronze Medals. As a team, we had a strong Sectional meet as American Martyrs’ Junior Boys and Girls both finished third, the Bantam Boys finished fourth while the Bantam Girls and Junior Boys and Girls finished fifth. At the Diocesan Championships, the Junior Girls and Bantam Boys earned a third place team finish while the Bantam Girls took fifth place as a team. Congratulations! Our success has to be attributed to the heart and talent of our runners, the assistance and support provided by their parents, and the coaches and their wives’ dedication to the team.

AOK defended their division title and won 1st place in CYO Championships for Brooklyn and Queens.

2018/2019 Track

It was a growing season for our Cross-Country Track Team. We started the season by welcoming a new head coach, John Lansden. The team was made up of approximately 20 runners, half of whom were new to the team. The team practiced during the week, and competed in 4 races that were held on Sundays on our home turf, in Alley Pond Park. The Track team will compete again outdoors in the Spring, in 4 short-distance races. There is still time to register to participate in Spring Track!
