- 4/22 - Our PeeWee Volleyball Team faced Our Lady of the Snows in the first round of the diocesan playoffs. Though their opponents were big and tall, the Eagles were brave and not intimidated. Katie Lam, Melissa Tyska, and Rubi Kim had great, consistent serves; and Kelly Gildea, Mia Fortuna-Jikko, and Alexa Ho has strong returns to propel the Eagles to a 21-19 and 21-12 win! Good luck in the next round of the playoffs!
- 4/17 - Our Novice Baseball Team continued to show great improvement in overall play and performance against St. Virgilius, Broad Channel. Tyler Calderon played stellar defense, recording six outs, and adding three stolen bases on offense. Donovan Turck pitched a solid games, striking out 7 batters. The Eagles' offense was led by Ashton Vung and Alexander Lopez. The Eagles lost 14-2, but the team is coming together and developing more every game. Great job Eagles!
- 4/10 - Our Novice Baseball Team hung tough with a good team from St. Patrick, Brooklyn. The Eagles had great plays and effort both on the field and at the plate. They had a solid performance from Antonios Varelas who pitched a good game, striking out 8 batters! Adrian Perez had another great day at the plate, hitting his first homerun of the season! Although the Eagles didn't get the victory, they were that much closer, losing by a final score of 8-3. The team is playing better each game and the players have gained more valuable experience. These boys are real team players and are all growing tremendous chemistry! Way to go Eagles!
- 4/9 - Our Novice Baseball Team had a tough and hard fought game against Our Lady of hope, Middle Village. Once again, the boys were not only challenged by having only 8 players but they also had to battle the cold, wet, and harsh weather. The Eagles were down 13-2 in the fifth inning, but the boys battled back and scored 5 runs in one inning in their best offensive performance yet! The offensive attack was led by Adrian Perez who hit a 2 run single. Great plays were made in the field by Donovan Turck and Alexander López. The Eagles were defeated 13-7, but the team played hard.
- 4/3 - Our Rookie Volleyball Team struggled against Our Lady of the Snows (White), and lost the first two sets in a close contest. The Eagles never gave up, and they rallied to win the third set 21-11. Strong serves by Samantha Ho and Wei Chen, along with heads up play by the rest of the team, made for an exciting match.
- 1/10 - Our Rookie Boys Basketball Team played St. Gregory of Bellerose for their second time this season, and this game was the one that Coach Dexter Mojica had been waiting for all season long. The team executed their game plan as a team, with a well balanced offensive attack and a solid defense. The boys were also vocal, constantly encouraging one another. Jake Krasovitsky led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Owen Torio with 10 points, Diego Mojica and Seth Carlson with 8 points each, and Daniel Yellinek and Nathan Lin with 2 points each. CJ Mungavin, John Cossin, and Kyle Chong nailed it down with defense and rebounds, shutting down the middle and forcing St. Greg's to shoot from the outside. The outstanding team effort gave the Eagles a big 43-20 win over St. Greg's.
- 11/29 - Our PeeWee Girls Basketball Team played Our Lady of Hope of Middle Village for their second time this season, and the Eagles went out there looking for yet another win, and a great win is what they got! Katie Lam and Jackie Regan scored 4 points each, and Kelly Gildea, Jessie Cossin, and Maya Panepinto contributed a basket each. The baskets combined with the team's great defense to give the Eagles a 14-2 victory!
- 11/29 - Our Novice Boys Basketball Team played Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament of Bayside. It was a very close game, with the Eagles being down 10-9 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter kicked off with Keilan Moran's two steals on the inbounds play, leading to 4 quick points for the Eagles. The great defense continued through the quarter, and the Eagles were able to hold onto the lead. Alexander Lopez led the team in scoring with 8 points, followed by Aidan Desruisseaux with 5 and Donovan Turck and Keilan Moran with 2 each.
- 11/15 - Our PeeWee Boys Basketball Team played St. Joseph of Astoria. Five Eagles players contributed points. Hao Chen was the MVP of the game, with 4 points, quite a few steals, and countless rebounds. Everyone played quality minutes, contributing to the team's second victory by a score of 15-8, bringing their record to 2-0. Great job, Eagles!
- 11/15 - Our Rookie Boys Basketball Team played St. Luke of Whitestone, a team that was bigger and more experienced that the Eagles, but the Eagles' energy and "never say die" attitude kept them in the game. Seth Carlson led the team in scoring with 14 points. Owen Torio and Jake Krasovitsky contributed with amazing all-around effort. CJ Mungavin and John Cossin stepped-up their defense and John also scored his first points of the season. The Eagles gave it their all but St. Luke's was victorious in the end by a score of 51-37.
- 11/8 - Our PeeWee Girls Basketball Team played St. Mary Winfield of Woodside. The Eagles played great defense all game, and hung tough after St. Mary's came back from being down 6-2 to send the game into Overtime. St. Mary's took the lead in Overtime by kitting a free throw, making the score 7-6, but with time left on the clock, Katie Lam hit the winning shot, for the final score of 8-7 - the team's first win of the season! Katie led her team in scoring, following by Gianni Herrera and Jessie Cossin. Way to go, Eagles!
- 11/8 - Our PeeWee Boys Basketball Team played Our Lady of Hope of Middle Village in their season opener. The Eagles played fantastic defense, and 5 different Eagles scored points! It was a great team effort for their first win of the season, with a final score of 18-6.
- 11/1 - Our Novice Boys Basketball Team played St. Robert Bellarmine of Bayside in their season opener. Adam Yellinek led the team in scoring with 10 points, and right behind him was Alexander Lopez with another 8 points. Keilan Moran and Aidan Desruisseaux played intense defense resulting in many steals and turnovers.
- 10/31 - Our Rookie Girls Basketball Team played St. Anastasia of Douglaston. The Eagles only had 5 players available for the game, but they fought thru their exhaustion, and were able to secure their first victory of the season with a 26-7 win. Point guard Jenna Romano led the team in scoring, and the rebounding by Kaitlyn Rivera and Wei Chen, along with the blocking by Sophia Tartaglione and suffocating defense of Gabriela Gomez all contributed to the team's first win.
- 10/25 - Our Cross-Country Track Team competed in their fourth and final meet of the season, which was held at Alley Pond Park - The Diocesan Championships. Before the races began, the Novice Boys team members were given medal for finishing in 3rd place as a team in the Diocesan semi-finals last week - that team consisted of Christian Herrera, Alex Tan, and Olivier Gaveau. This week, in the Championships, the Eagles runners took home their biggest prizes yet! 7 Individual medals were won! Christian Herrera won a medal for finishing in the Top 15 in the PeeWee Boys race, Julie Cossin for Top 15 in the Bantam Girls race, Gianni Herrera for Top 15 in the Novice Girls Race, Olivier Gaveau for Top 15 in the Novice Boys Race, and Noah Fortuna-Jikko for Top 15 in the Novice Boys Race. Claudia Lopez finished in 3rd place in the Novice Girls race and Alex Tan finished in 3rd place in the Novice Boys race. At the end of the Meet, the Novice Boys team, made up of Alex Tan, Noah Fortuna-Jikko, Olivier Gaveau, Hao Chen, and Charlie LeRoux were awarded a trophy for 3rd place in the Diocese! What a triumphant return for American Martyrs to CYO Track! Congratulations to the Eagles Cross-Country team on a successful season! Great job to the athletes and their coaches!
- 10/24 - Our Pee-Wee Boys Soccer Team played Our Lady of Hope of Middle Village. Maxwell Gaveau scored his first goal of the year and Michael Velez added another one. The Eagles tied Hope with a score of 2-2, in what was their final game of the season. Congrats to the team and their coaches on a hard-fought season!
- 10/24 - Our Bantam Girls Basketball Team played Corpus Christi of Woodside where they earned their first win of the season! Point guard, Julie Cossin scored all of the Eagles' points. Unfortunately, the game had to end after the third period, due to injuries suffered by members of the Corpus Christi team, leaving them short-handed. The Eagles wish the Corpus Christi girls a speedy recovery, and they look forward to seeing them again later on in the season.
- 10/24 - Our Novice Girls Soccer Team played St. Gregory of Bellerose. St. Greg's was a tough and skillful team. The Eagles put up a good fight. Defender, Jessie Cossin, stood out in the game. She was consistently aggressive and cleared many balls out of the defensive zone. Every one of the Eagles' players gave 100%, but St. Greg's was too strong of a team for the Eagles to defeat.
- 10/24 - Our Intermediate Girls Soccer Team played Our Lady of the Snows of Floral Park. The Eagles played short-handed, and were down 3-0 at half time. In the second half, Coach Bel Mojica made the decision to move forwards Gabriela Gomez and Emma DiRado to midfield, which kept the OLS Huskies at bay for the second half, and even allowed Gabriella Gomez to score a goal. Unfortunately the Eagles couldn't catch up soon enough, and they lost by a score of 3-1. Good effort, Eagles!
- 10/18 - Our Cross-Country Track Team competed in their third meet of the season, which was held at Alley Pond Park. The Eagles had 10 runners participate in the event, and 6 of our 10 participants won medals! John Cossin won a medal for finishing in 12th place in the Junior Boys race. Julie Cossin won a medal for finishing in the Top 15 in the Bantam Girls. Olivier Gaveau finish in 7th place in the Novice Boys race, not far behind Alex Tan who finished in 2nd place! The 3-person Novice boys team of Alex tan, Olivier Gaveau, and Christian Herrera have a great shot of earning a team Track medal for American Martyrs! Gianni Herrera finished in the Top 15 in her first race in the Novice Girls Division, not far behind Claudia Lopez who bested her last 2 races of 3rd place, this time finishing in 2nd Place! It was another great showing by the Eagles Track Team!
- 10/18 - Our PeeWee Girls Basketball Team played St. Thomas More of Breezy Point in their first game of the season. The girls had a big learning curve, with most of the team having not played basketball before, and only 7 girls out of their large roster were able to attend the game. Strong defense was played by Jessie Cossin and Kelly Gildea, and offense by Katie Lam, who scored all of the Eagles points. In the nail-biting last few seconds of the game, the Eagles were able to take a few shots, but unfortunately, weren't able to get them to go in. They lost to St. Thomas More by a score of 6-5.
- 10/17 - Our Rookie Girls Basketball Team played Our Lady of the Snows of Floral Park in their first game of the season. Snows was a strong "A" division team, but the Eagles put up a great fight. Sophia Mojica stepped out of her role as a forward, to help her team bring the ball down the court and break the strong full-court pressure applied by Snows. Jenna Romano led the Eagles in scoring, followed by Sophia Tartaglione and Gabriela Gomez. The Eagles staged a comeback in the second half, but were unable to take the lead, losing by a score of 28-21.
- 10/17 - Our Bantam Girls Basketball Team kicked off the AMAA Basketball season against St. Sebastian of Woodside. It was a tough start to the season, but the girls have all season long to improve! The lone Eagles points were scored by Julie Cossin and Emma DiRado.
- 10/17 - Our Pee-Wee Boys Soccer Team played Our Lady of grace of Howard Beach an won be an exciting score of 4-1. Goals were scored by Ryan Ambery, Charlie LeRoux with his first of the season, and two by Michael Velez, one of which was on a direct kick - a perfect shot that Velez lifted over the wall of defenders. The Eagles defense play was key, with Adam Bouallaq, Matthew Velez, Olivier Gaveau and Aidan Marte playing strong, shutting down the attempts made by OLG. It was a great win by the Eagles!
- 10/10 - Our Intermediate Girls Soccer Team played Our Lady of Grace of Howard Beach in the most competitive game that they've played thus far. The game was intense, with neither team scoring in the first half. However, the Eagles inability to maintain the ball at their goal took its toll. The defense was outstanding. Julianne Leavy, Juliana DeVito, and Sophia Mojica were a defensive line not to be reckoned with. Midfielder, Mikaela Huang, assisted the defense with extra effort, clearly watching the ball all along the field. The Eagles lost the game 1-0, but gained much confidence for next week.
- 10/4 - Our Pee-Wee Boys Soccer Team played Sacred Heart of Bayside. The Eagles won the game 1-0 on a complete team effort, with everyone playing at least 25 minutes of game time each. Olivier Gaveau contributed with a shutout in goal. Hao Chen played strong, keeping the ball out of the Eagles' zone. Nick Turk, Ryan Ambery, and Michael Velez won a lot of one on one battles on offense. The lone goal that gave the Eagles the win was scored by Nicholas Lin. It was his first goal of the season and it came at a great team! Way to go Eagles!
- 10/4 - Our Cross-Country Track Team competed in their second meet of the season, which was held at Alley Pond Park. The Eagles had 13 runners participate in the event; Wei Chen, Johnny Cossin, Julie Cossin, Mia Angelina Fortuna Jikko, Claudia Lopez, Sunng Wong, Keifer Lim, Alexander Lopez, Hao Chen, Ethan Correa, Noah Fortuna Jikko, Olivier Gaveau, and new AMAA Eagle - Alyssa Hinck. The AMAA Eagles won 5 medals, for the second week in a row! Wei Chen and John Cossin won medals for finishing in the Top 25 in their races. Olivier Gaveau and Noah Fortuna Jikko took home their 2nd Top 25 medals. Claudia Lopez, finished in 3rd place out of all the CYO Novice Girls, for the second week in a row! Great job, Track team!!
- 10/4 - Our Novice Girls Soccer Team played Our Lady of Hope of Middle Village. Leilani Correa had a great first half in goal, only giving up one. The Eagles played well, with improved passing. Claudia Lopez scored the lone goal for the Eagles. Unfortunately Our Lady of Hope was too strong, and they defeated the Eagles by a score of 5-1.
- 10/3 - Our Rookie Boys Soccer Team played St. Gregory of Bellerose. St. Greg's was a very skilled team. They created many scoring opportunities that could have lead to goals if it wasn't for the excellent play of the Eagles goalie, John Cossin who helped give the Eagles their 5-0 shutout win. Brian Lau gave outstanding effort at the sweeper position today, keeping the ball out of the danger zone. 2 goals were scored by Bleck Peter, and 1 each by Alexander Lopez, Max Suarez, and Nick Toriello. Great win, Eagles!
- 9/27 - Our Cross-Country Track Team competed in their first meet of the season, which was held at Alley Pond Park. The Eagles had 14 runners participate in the event, their first return to the CYO Track program for a few years now. All 14 runners, including Wei Chen, Kathey Chen, Shirley Tom, Charlie LeRoux, Ethan Correa, Hao Chen, Keifer Lim, Alexander Lopez, and Sunny Wong completed the race, and finished strong. Mia Angelina Fortune Jikko, Noah Fortuna Jikko, and Olivier Gaveau received medals for finishing in the top 20 in their races. Alex Tan and Claudia Lopez each finished in 3rd place for their races, and both were awarded a medal for their achievement. Congratulations to the Eagles runners and their coaches!
- 9/26 - Our Pee-Wee Boys Soccer Team played Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament of Bayside. As usual, the Eagles played their hearts out. Down 1-0 with 5 minutes left in the game, the Eagles were able to get 5 shots on goal, but unfortunately could not score. The boys and their coaches should be proud of their great effort.
- 9/26 - Our Rookie Boys Soccer Team was scheduled to play Queen of Peace of Flushing, but unfortunately, Queen of Peace was unable to field a team, giving the Eagles a 1-0 Forfeit win.
- 9/26 - Our Novice Girls Soccer Team played St. Mel of Flushing. The girls played more unified, passing the ball more often. Yeona Choi played goalie for her first time, in the second half of the game, and she only gave up one goal. She was fierce, and not afraid to come out of the goal to save a ball. Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn't score a goal, and they were defeated by a score of 3-0.
- 9/26 - Our Intermediate Girls Soccer Team played St. Anastasia of Douglaston. The Eagles took the field more confidently than last week, and with a clear understanding of how demanding the game could be. Veteran player, Sophia Mojica, who was playing with a fractured toe, played hard, determined to clear the ball every chance she was given. Newcomer, Minna Cheng, stayed focused throughout the game, and was unyielding when it came to defending her goalie. Unfortunately, the Eagles effort did not produce a win, but an improvement from last week. They were defeated by St. Anastasia by score of 4-0.
- 9/19 - Our Squirt Boys Soccer Team played Chelsea in the LND league. Though the lost by forfeit, they were able to play a scrimmage game assisted by older player, Max Suarez. Team Chelsea started the game aggressively, putting pressure on the Eagles, resulting in the first goal of the game. A switching of positions changed the momentum for the Eagles and Ethan Correa delivered on a rebound to score the tying goal of the game. Max scored on a breakaway, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead. Isaiah de la Espriella then capitalized on a defensive error, making the score 3-1. The Eagles continued bringing the pressure, but missed a few open shots. Team Chelsea turned a defensive mishandle into a goal, making the score 3-2. The Eagles stayed focused and tightened their defense until time ran out. The Eagles, Ethan, Isaiah, Christian Herrera, Maxwell Karshner, Bobby Shoule, Andres Suarez, and Carlos Ponce celebrated their 3-2 win.
- 9/19 - Our Pee-Wee Boys Soccer Team played St. Sebastian of Woodside. The boys played their hearts out. Goals were scored by Ryan Ambery and newcomer, Michael Velez, to lead the way, but the 2-0 win was a complete team effort. Paras Gupta, Akash Singh, and Nick Turck added the constant pressure on offense. The defense played excellent as a group, contributing the shutout win. The whole team should be proud!
- 9/19 - Our Intermediate Girls Soccer Team played St. Anastasia of Douglaston in their season opener. Goals were scored by veteran player, Jenna Romano, and the fierce athlete, Julie Cossin. Isabelle Karshner, for the first time in her life, entered a competitive soccer field unyielding. Her persistence gave her the assist for the Eagles' second goal of the game. The girls played the game with determination and heart, though they ended up on the loosing side of the competition. The game was a great effort and learning experience.
- 9/13 - Our Novice Girls Soccer Team played Holy Child Jesus of Richmond Hill. Our AMAA Eagles fought hard against a HCJ squad that was very aggressive and much bigger than them. Due to poor attendance, the Eagles only had 11 girls play in the game, so there were times, with injuries, that they had to play short-handed. Despite a strong defensive performance by newcomer Katie Carbone, playing half the game in goal, and an aggressive offense played by Laura Toriello, Gianni Herrera, and Claudia Lopez, the size and aggression of HCJ was too much for the Eagles to overcome.
- 9/12 - Our Squirt Boys Soccer Team played Our Lady of the Snows Huskies in the LND league for their first game of the season. Though the lost by forfeit, they were able to play a scrimmage game assisted by older players. Ethan Correa had a breakaway chance at a goal, when he was fouled and awarded a penalty shot. Ethan drilled the kick past the goalie. The Eagles, Ethan, Andres Suarez, Bobby Shoule, and Chris Gupta celebrated their 2-1 win.
- 9/12 - Our Novice Girls Soccer Team played Our Lady of the Snows of Floral Park in their season opener. After being physically roughed up, Gianni Herrera brushed it all off and stepped up to score the first goal of the AMAA soccer season. Leilani Correa stepped up to play goal for AMAA, showing her bravery and team spirit. Unfortunately, Snows was the stronger team this game, and the Huskies beat the Eagles by a score of 4-1.
- 9/12 - Our Rookie Boys Soccer Team (combined with Our Lady of the Snows) played Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament of Bayside in their season opener. Bleck Peter played goalie during the first half of the game, making several key saves to keep the game close. Jalen Jean played an overall excellent game, which resulted in him scoring 3 goals. Many of the starting strikers, especially Diego Mojica, stepped up in the second half of the game to play defense. It was a hard-fought game but OLBS won by a score of 7-4. This was the first time that the Martyrs/Snows combo team played together, and they showed grit, courage, and true team spirit.
- 9/12 - Our Pee-Wee Boys Soccer Team played St. Francis DeSales of Belle Harbor in their season opener. Due to lack of commitment and poor turnout, the team had a huge disadvantage to overcome. With only 10 out of the 21 boys on the roster at the game, the team was outnumbered the whole game, sometimes playing with only 9 due to injuries. The 10 boys exhausted themselves the first half of the game, keeping the score at just 1-0 at halftime. Goalie, Alex Tan, made incredible saves. Near goals by both Maxwell Gaveau and Nate Shoule had the Eagles fans jumping out of their seats! Max and Nate, along with their teammates Adam Bollouq, Olivier Gaveau, Josh Menendez, Nick Turck, Ryan Ambery, Ethan Correa, and Charlie LeRoux ran the field like they were fighting for the FIFA World Cup. They fought tooth and nail but with no substitutions, they gave all they can and eventually ran out of steam, dropping their first game of the season by a score of 4-0.
SPRING 2015
- 4/11 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played Our Lady of Hope of Middle Village in a double-header. In the first game, shortstop Jillian Ma went 3 for 3 with a homerun and 4 RBIs and third baseman Katie Rivera contributed with a 2 RBI single. Despite a strong offensive first game, they lost by a score of 15-9, and dropped the second game 16-2.
- 4/11 - Our Sub-Novice Boys Baseball Team played St. Luke of Whitestone. On offense, Akash went 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs and Maxwell pitched the whole game and struck out 12 batters to propel the team to a 9-2 win in their first game of the season.
- 4/12 - Our Sub-Novice Boys Baseball Team played St. Gregory of Bellerose. It was a close game with a lot of strong defense and St. Greg's was winning 1-0 until the 5th inning when their offense turned it up a notch and defeated us 6-0.
- 4/18 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played St. Gregory of Bellerose in a double-header. In the first game, shortstop Jillian Ma went 4 for 4 with two singles and two doubles. Pitcher, Julie Cossin struck out 7. It was a close game, but we lost 6-5. The second game was just as close! Jillian Ma went 4 for 4 again with a single, two doubles, and a homerun, and first baseman Sophia Mojica went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Sofia Mitts struck out 8 batters. The game went into extra innings and the international tie-breaker rule was put into play. In the end, we lost the nail-biting game 10-9.
- 4/19 - Our Novice Boys Baseball Team played St. Adalbert. Thanks to strong pitching from Antonio and a 3 run homerun from Nicholas, the boys won their first game by a score of 8-5.
- 4/18 - Our Sub-Novice Boys Baseball Team played St. Stan of Maspeth. Ryan Ambery scored 2 run and Maxwell struck out 7 batter and pitched his first shutout of the season for the Eagle's 6-0 win.
- 4/25 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament of Bayside in a double-header. On defense, third baseman Jenna Romano and second baseman Julianne Leavy combined for an amazing 5-5-4 TRIPLE play! Julianne also led the team on defense with 6 Put-Outs. Shortstop Jillian Ma went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a single, resulting in 5 RBIs. The great effort in the field and at bat led to our first win of the season by a score of 8-6! In the second game, Sofia Mitts struck out 6 batters, but our offense struggled. We lost the game 11-3
- 4/25 - Our Sub-Novice Boys Baseball Team played Queen of Peace. Max pitched strong and Josh had the team's only RBI as Queen of Peace defeated us by a score of 2-1 on a game-ending single in the bottom of the 6th inning.
- 5/3 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played St. Virgilius of Broad Channel. Pitcher, Julie Cossin, led off the game with a single and was eventually driven in with an RBI by shortstop, Jillian Ma. The rest of the game the score was 1-0, until the bottom of the 7th inning, when despite the great defensive game and 8 strikeouts thrown by Julie Cossin, St. Virgilius came back to win the game by a score of 2-1.
- 5/10 - Our Sub-Novice Boys Baseball Team played Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament of Bayside. Thanks to an all around team effort, we won by a score of 6-0. The game featured a strong pitching outing from Gabriel Harris, Maxwell Gaveau and Josh Menendez with 2 RBIs each and Nick Turk with 2 excellent defensive plays. 10 boys on the team reached base! Great job Eagles!
- 5/16 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played St. Pancras of Glendale. Two innings of the first game of this double-header were played in the pouring rain. When the field got too wet, the umpire paused the game, and they waited out the rain... when they were finally able to complete it, they were victorious! The girls won 7-2 on this, their second win of the season. On defense, Sofia Mitts struck out 8 batters and Sophia Mojica had 9 Put-Outs at 1st Base. On offense, Julie Cossin went 3 for 4 with 3 bunted base-hits and Jillian Ma had 4 RBIs which included a shot up the middle which resulted in a 3-Run Homerun. The second game is in the process of being re-scheduled. Great job Eagles!
- 5/19 - Our Sub-Novice Girls Softball Team played Our Lady of the Snows of Floral Park. Laura Moran pitched a great game, striking out multiple batters to propel the team to a 7-1 Win!
- 5/20 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played a double-header against St. Mel of Flushing. In the first game, Jenna Romano struck out 6 batters and had an additional 5 assists to lead her team on defense. On offense, Alexan Verelas had 5 RBIs including a triple, Julianne Leavy went 2 for 3 with 2 base hits and an RBI, and Sophia Mojica went 3 for 4 with a single, 2 doubles, and 4 RBIs, to lead the Eagles to a 10-3 victory. In the second game, Julie Cossin struck out 5 batters and had an additional 5 assists to lead her team on defense. In the bottom of the 4th inning, Katie Rivera led off the inning with a base hit, followed by a base hit from Julie, Jenna, and a 2 RBI double from Sofia Mitts. Jillian Ma then hit a 3-Run home run (her 4th homer of the season) to give Martyrs the 5-1 lead. In the top of the 6th inning, Alina Masihuddin made a great ply in the field to throw a baserunner out at 2nd base from left-centerfield. St. Mel's wasn't done yet, and the fought back and scored 5 runs on errors to tie up the game. Sofia Mitts was called on to come in to pitch to get us out of the inning, and she did so by striking out the first batter she faced, and then making a 1-3 play for the final out of the inning. With very little sunlight left, the Eagles got up for their final at bat as the home team this evening. Julie Cossin got on base with a base hit. With 2 outs and the threat of the game ending in a tie, Sofia Mitts who had just stepped up on defense, got up to bat and ripped a double to bring Julie home, ending the game with a score of 6-5. Two great, exciting games by our Bantam girls. An all-around team effort!
- 5/30 - Our Sub-Novice Girls Softball Team played Our Lady of Hope Blue of Middle Village. Superior pitching by Laura Moran and a great offensive game for the Eagles caused the big win with a final score of 10-1!
- 5/31 - Our Sub-Novice Girls Softball Team played Our Lady of the Snows of Floral Park again. The Eagles were short players, but OLS was gracious enough to lend us one of their girls for the game. Joleen played 1st base for the first time, were she quickly fielded balls, results in quite a few put-outs. Despite a great effort, the Eagles lost 5-1.
- 6/3 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played St. Pancras of Glendale. Jenna Romano pitched the whole game, and threw a season high - 10 strikeouts and no earned runs. Jenna also contributed on offense, by going 2 for 3 with a double and a single. Newcomer, Lavender Reynolds, had her first base hit, which also resulted in one of the runs for the Eagles' 4-2 win. Outfielder, Sofia Mitts, went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Catcher, Alexan Varelas also went 2 for 3, and knocked in a run. Her big play of the game came when we tried to execute a pick-off play for the first time of the season. With a runner on 1st base, Alexan fired the ball to first baseman, Sophia Mojica, while right-fielder Lydia Saffian was ready for back-up, for the exciting and successful pick-off.
- 6/6 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played a double-header against Queen of Peace of Kew Gardens. Julie Cossin was the starting pitcher, but after a mid-game injury, Sofia Mitts came in to relieve her. The two pitchers combined their effort for a 4-0 shutout win! Julie also went 2 for 4, laying down perfect bunted base-hits. Outfielder, Lydia Saffian, reached first base on a walk on all 3 of her plate appearances. Second baseman, Julianne Leavy, hit a double to drive in 2 of the team's runs. The second game started rough, with Julianne leaving the game due to an illness, and third-baseman, Katie Rivera leaving due to an injury. Team captain, Sofia Mitts, stepped up for her team and suited up into the catcher's gear for her first time ever. The Eagles fought hard. First-baseman, Sophia Mojica went 2 for 2 and scored a run, and outfielder, Aliya Massihuddin hit a shot to the outfield, earning her 2 RBIs for her team. The Eagles were leading 5-2 going into the bottom of the last inning, but they succumbed to mental mistakes and errors, which allowed Queen of Peace to come back and defeat the Eagles by a score of 6-5.
- 6/7 - Our Bantam Girls Softball Team played St. Virgilius of Broad Channel for their final game of the regular season. Julie Cossin pitched the whole game, striking out 5 batters. Julie was also the offensive star of the game, going 4 for 5 with an RBI and 3 runs scored. Sofia Mitts stepped in once again to fill the void behind home plate. The 3, 4, 5, and 6 batters for the Eagles, Sofia Mitts, Sophia Mojica, Jillian Ma, and Julianne Leavy all had 2 hits and 3 RBIs each. Outfielder, Alina Masihuddin, walked in two of her plate appearances, both of which resulted in a run scored. The Eagles were victorious, 12-8, and finished the season with 7 wins and 7 losses.
